How should I prepare the surface before painting or varnishing?
Good surface preparation is essential for paint or varnish to adhere properly. Remove loose old coatings, thoroughly clean away dust, grease and dirt, and lightly sand the surface if necessary. The substrate must be clean, dry and sound so that the coating lasts and does not peel.
Which paint or varnish is best for my DIY project?
The right choice depends on the material and how it will be used. For indoor wood, we recommend water-based paints or varnishes; for exterior wood, use weather-resistant wood protection paints. Metal requires anti-corrosion primers and coatings. Read the product descriptions carefully or ask our team for a personal recommendation.
Can I mix paints or varnishes to create my own colours?
Yes. You can mix paints or varnishes of the same type and base to create individual colours. Important: only mix products with the same composition, such as water-based acrylic paints with one another, and first test a small quantity to check compatibility and colour.
How should I store paints and varnishes so they last?
Always store paints and varnishes tightly closed in a cool, dry and frost-free place. Avoid direct sunlight and major temperature fluctuations. Close the lid firmly after use, as oxygen can accelerate curing. Use opened containers as soon as possible.
How should I clean brushes and rollers after painting or varnishing?
Clean tools immediately after use. Warm water with a little soap is sufficient for water-based paints and varnishes. For solvent-based products, use a suitable brush cleaner or white spirit substitute. Reshape the bristles after cleaning and allow brushes and rollers to dry completely.
